What the roaming reporter on film can bring to the recovery agenda

It’s a beautiful sunny autumn morning here in Perth. I should be outside walking along the river, but no I’ve been doing something better …

… watching the first two sets of film highlights, by Inexcess TV, of the UKESAD meeting in London. Well worth watching!

George WIlliams, who makes an excellent roaming reporter, has brought a large Inexcess team down from Liverpool to film this meeting.

We’re just getting the highlights now, but George’s team will be producing a range of interview material over the coming weeks. Can’t wait.

I won’t say much more other than watch these highlights, about 15 minutes in total.

Highlights, Day 1

Highlights, Day 2

However, I just wanted to say how much I related to George’s words when he describes what recovery has given him: “It allows me to meet amazing people who have turned their lives around.”

Well done George and team…

And a massive congratulations to Deidre Boyd and her team at Addiction Today for putting the UKESAD meeting together. You should feel very proud of yourselves!

I was at UKESAD on Thursday and Friday and it was a great event. In my life I have heard many speeches and lectures. I have a kind of Top Ten of the best speeches and lectures I have ever heard. Well on Thursday evening from 6pm to 7.45pm I sat spellbound for 1hour and 45 minutes as Patrick Carnes delivered one of the most riveting, insightful and thought provoking lectures on addiction that I have ever heard. I was supposed to have dinner with George and the guys at In Excess but I found myself wandering round SW7 trying to process all the information. Patrick went seemlessly from slides of brain scans to make a point about neuropharmacology and then on to Buddha, Mahatma Ghandi and matters spititual. Next morning Christopher Kennedy Lawford presented another Top Ten lecture of the highest quality. Looking forward to seeing highlights of Day 3.

David,
thanks for prompting me to watch these clips.Well done to UKESAD for such a high quality of presentation which must have taken a lot of planning and preparation.Ive been working with Veterans and found the UKESAD clip on PTSD interesting. My approach not only encompass working with the Veteran I counsel the family who are often at their wits end and hope for the future is gone which can be restored. All dual-diagnosis stuff and being ex-special forces the relief for the Veteran to find an ex-military person to talk to helps.Keep the information coming, the variety of information on this site is growing.

Not being able to get to London for the conference, I watched the UKESAD highlights searching for some vicarious thrills. I was not disappointed.

This is such an advance for the recovery field. Gettiing what is essentially a short TV programme with snapshots of conference participants and speakers is wonderful.

Thank you George and Team.

By the way, my attempts to attend UKESAD virtually continued in Annmarie Ward’s blog. She’s written a personal account of her experiences there.

I went to Ukesad and just loved seeing George, Roger and the gang there really taking coverage of the conference to the next level. Ukesad is THE conference of the year for me. I always feel that my practice is validated. This year Patrick Carnes, Dr Mark Atkinson and Christopher Kennedy Lawford did it for me!!! Last year Dr Mark Farris Pirtle took my breath away there!!! At many conferences Im just putting in an appearance, but at Ukesad Im alive and curious!!
George really captured the great buzz there. Id love to see Wired In and Inexcess doing something together up in Liverpool during the next series of live broadcasts. Any thoughts on this David?
Mark, I feel so relieved and heart-warmed every time I read of your passion for new paths on this journey. You are a visionary. Keep going.

Hope everyone is having a great Bank Holiday weekend xxoxo
