Addiction briefing at The Basement

Dear Community Professional,

We have all seen the impact on society due to the effects of drug and alcohol abuse. We know of the educational campaigns about cutting down, “know your limits”, “tackling drugs changing lives” etc. but do you really know where you can refer people for whom these campaigns are too late?

The Basement Project is delighted to invite you to a free luncheon briefing on how we can assist you when faced with drink and drug addicts, why you should refer them and our success in helping them overcome addiction.

Addiction Briefing – 10th March 2010, at The Basement, Halifax YMCA, 12:30 – 14:30

The impact of alcohol and drug addiction within our local services is huge but the impact on society as a whole is even greater.

· Over half of all violent offences are alcohol or drug related
· Problem drinkers alone consult their GPs twice as often as the average patient
· 70% of night time and 40% of daytime A&E attendances are caused by alcohol
· More than 1.3 million children suffer drug and alcohol related abuse or neglect

As the Government Alcohol and Drug Strategies looks to change, for example:

The House of Commons Health Committee – First Report – Alcohol, 10th December 2009 states:

“the dire state of alcohol treatment services is a significant disincentive for primary care services to detect alcohol-related problems at an early stage before the serious and expensive health consequences of regular heavy drinking have developed”

One of their recommendations states:

· Access to community based alcohol treatment must be improved
· Acute hospital services should be linked to specialist and community alcohol treatment services

It is important for you to understand how The Basement Project can help you with new key actions and outcomes from strategy decisions. The event is open to all professionals who deal with problem drinkers and drug users.

Dear Michaela
Thanks for the posting for this event. We have been pleased with the response we have had, and are now unable to take any more bookings.
Of course, we will feedback on the event to wired in.
If any other groups are interested in hosting a similar event, we would wholeheartedly say – go for it, the tide is turning and there are loads of professionals interested in our models of recovery.
