I had begun one of my negative moans about folk not doin’ stuff and bleedin’ the system and its end recipients. Fortunately, life took over, life can be so good sometimes, and I never submitted.
Such that by the time I return to these e-waves, I want to celebrate the most fantastic afternoon of recovery and evidence of recovery.
I have just been to the launch of Tapedradio – a project by folk in recovery for folk in recovery and those around those in recovery about recovery and we can all listen. So please folks check this out… it is amazing.
This is just great, the production, the interviewing, the recording, the website, etc. All just done by folk in recovery, drugs, alcohol and some other bits.
TAPE itself is this brilliant project co-ordinated by a couple of folks and they have just done superb stuff – all around theatre, performing arts, film, music and the like with the recovery community of Colwyn Bay.
(I will write more about this community over time ‘cos its really vibrant, loving, sharing and supportive world).
The folk at TAPE have now helped the growth of two bands, The Wild Stallions and the In by Nines or In by Tens (sorry cannot remember the curfew time the band is named after).
The Wild Stallions performing at national NOMS Unpaid Work (previously known to you and me as community service) gig. Lots of play and drama activity goes on, to name but two bits of its work.
TAPE have also agreed to work with us at the Recovery academy to explore how we use these mediums to contribute to the evidence base, and are hosting the first North Wales Recovery Academy meeting next month – big thanks folks.
So please just check this out, this is recovery in action. I love it and this is what I mean why I am for ever going on about stuff beyond methadone.
Best wishes to all – hope the sun shines on your weekend, as it did on my afternoon yesterday after an all too wearisome week in target world.
I spend a bit of time on the site and agree: it is a fantastic initiative. It’s another example of the power of the grassroots recovery community making a difference locally. It looks and sounds very professional.
We need to create a directory on Wired In and elsewhere (Recovery Academy?) of these emerging valuable resources so others can be signposted to them. Too good to waste.
very kind Wulf… but… we have evolved from THEINBYTENS (as was our curfew in rehab like you said) into “Substance!!” and we’ve even got a “NORMAL” person in the band, her voice is soooo amazing we let her lack of near death experiances through massive addiction slide, she’s our honoury junkie. oh yeah and our next gig is playing theartre Cymru in Llandudno on the 3rd november. the wild stallions have also trotted on into er…. er… give me a min. oh yeah.. “suffocation”. yawn! only jokin, they are really good… but they just aint got no “substance!!”
i’m really glad you enjoyed friday and i still need an interview from you for the radio. which everyone can find at http://www.tapedradio.co.uk and our other place is http://www.tapemusicandfilm.co.uk which is still under construction but the home page is 9 inch NAILED!!! ha-ha.
Feel The Love Brother!!
best
