Raucous Caucus Recovery Chorus

Just wanted to share with you all something that happened today. The RCRC singing group based at SHARP Liverpool went on the first leg of its UK Tour of rehabs! We started today at Oaktrees Treatment Centre in Gateshead. We are aiming to visit six other rehabs around the country in the next 12 months or so.

We do a brief performance followed by recovery shares and how singing has featured in our recovery. This is then followed by a singing workshop with all clients and staff learning a new song from start to finish. We film the event and provide the treatment centre we have visited with their own keepsake of the day in the hope that they too will set up their own choir.

We intend to check back in 18 months ot see how many treatment centres started their own choirs and, where there are choirs, we are going to try and get a performance where all the choirs will sing together as one voice, perhaps at the 2011 Recovery March.

Today we experienced such fun, connection and joy. The whole event was soooo moving and powerful. It was so lovely of Oaktrees to have us over for the day.

If you would like RCRC come and hold one of these events at your centre, just give us a shout!!

The Raucous Caucus Recovery Chorus – changing the treatment world one song at a time!

This is fantastic! What about about visiting Manchester Recovery centre? And Tameside and have some of the workers experience this and then in turn model it to the clients – that it’s ok to grow !

Whatever your best means of expression, develop and utilise it. For some it is writing, for others art, film, theatre or internet. These are all important channels for getting out our message that we are full, capable human beings with a voice which needs to be heard and taken seriously.

What with Androcles’s lyrics and the choir’s vocal skills I think we have Wired In’s entry for the X Factor. Watch out Mr. Cowell !
